About the Gypo Logging Board Game

Gypo Logging is a new game launched by Trevor Bergstrom of Gypo Logging Board, click for larger imageSquamish, BC. Trevor has been working on this concept for the past several years with his sister Heidi as designer, and he is now distributing the game all over BC. Trevor has worked in the logging industry for most of his life which is where he was inspired to create this unique game.

Gypo Logging reinvents some traditional board game elements that we are familiar with from games like monopoly and trivial pursuit but with a whole new level of challenge and fun due to it's unique outer/inner board bi-level play space.

Gypo Logging has evolved into a game that takes into consideration the impact of markets, social and environmental movements on the industry and the individual worker. It also seeks to teach and share knowledge about an industry and its workers in crisis - and everyone has fun sharing or reveling in the misery -whether it’s an oil spill that causes everyone to have to pay for the clean up, or getting a Mini Dire card that dictates that some other player gets to gain from your loss. That’s the way it works in the real world and that’s how it works on the board.

This game is fun for everyone whether or not you have worked in the industry and, it is not just for guys. Women and youth players who have played in test rounds (see news story below "Testing Complete") have picked up quickly and often do very well or win. So, leave your stereotypes at home or in the car while playing this game - it is full of surprises.

For more complete information about how to play the game and how it is being marketed please follow the links at left for the video clips and game instructions. To see when Trevor is going to be in your town check out info on the Investors page.

Local companies can literally buy a property on the board and the games sold in that community will have their company name on the spot. The aim of marketing Gypo Logging in this way is to develop a strong identity within a community of who the local 'players' are. In areas where businesses don't get involved on the board the original board will be marketed. For more information about this or to get in the game as a sponsor please visit the Investors page. April /05 "Testing Complete! Gypo Logging goes on the road " Game playing in Queen Charlotte, BC December 2004

After months of revisions Gypo Logging is ready to go on the road throughout British Columbia. Test rounds of the game have been played in various towns and cities throughout the province including Victoria, Squamish, Campbell River, and Queen Charlotte. Response to the game has been very positive with good suggestions for revisions from the players. Players have included former or current forestry workers, women and youth with little or no interest in logging.

Gypo Logging in Manchester, England summer of 2005.

We had a very pleasant afternoon of Gypo Logging in Manchester, England this summer where friends and family got a taste of the (almost) completed game. This particular crew decided to change the rules so that a player could buy equipment without having to own an asset. This changed the dynamics considerably but they are still all friends! There is nothing quite like a nice back garden in England with good food and beverages to keep you playing. This game went on for only 3 hours.
